Forming a Youth Kateri Circle

Local missions/parishes have youth groups consisting of its congregation who try to emulate the life of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha; a young Mohawk/Algonquin woman who lived during the 17th century; who lived both in Native Traditionalism and Catholicism.

The Kateri Youth Circle exists under the support and guidance of the Tekakwitha Conference and encouraged to abide by the guidelines as established by the Tekakwitha Conference. Each Kateri Youth Circle must register with the Tekakwitha Conference National Center to receive a Certificate of Recognition.

Kateri Youth Circles also have guidelines at the local parish level. The Youth Circle is then recognized as an organization in the parish by the parish council. The Kateri Youth Circle then should be involved in the voice at parish council meetings to express their concerns in ministry and religious education.

There is a Commissioning Rite for the Kateri Youth Circles, which can be used in the parish during the celebration of Mass or at another parish gathering.

The Constitution and By-Laws may be changed to fit the needs of the Kateri Youth Circle.

May the spirit of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha guide all of you in the formation of your Kateri Youth Circle.

Through the intercession of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha we pray,
Sister Kateri Mitchell, SSA
Executive Director
